RAM Clinic Standard Operating Procedures Coordinator

Founded in 1985 by Stan Brock, Remote Area Medical (RAM) is a large, non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent pain and alleviate suffering. To accomplish this mission, RAM operates mobile medical clinics that deliver free, high-quality dental, vision, and medical services to underserved and uninsured individuals. Each year, RAM operates more than 60 mobile medical clinics that take place throughout the United States and around the world, with the majority occurring in rural U.S. communities. RAM was initially founded to serve as a safety net provider of free medical care in remote areas of developing countries, such as Guyana, Mexico, and Haiti. Almost immediately after beginning operations, it began receiving requests to operate medical clinics in the United States. This ultimately led to the operation of the first American RAM clinic on May 9, 1992 in Sneedville, Tennessee. Today, nearly 90% of all RAM operations take place domestically. In order to treat as many people as possible, RAM recruits and supports volunteers for the operation of its mobile medical clinics. RAM volunteers include licensed nurses, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, dental hygienists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and opticians; as well as general support volunteers who assist with patient registration, interpreting, patient transport, clinic set-up, and clinic tear-down. Since 1985, RAM's Corps of more than 120,000 Humanitarian Volunteers have treated more than 740,000 women, men, and children, delivering $120 million worth of free healthcare services. RAM also frequently partners with local, regional, and global organizations, and thanks to international volunteers, is able to respond to disasters by delivering medical relief and other humanitarian aid when needed. In 2017, more than 100,000 pounds of disaster relief supplies were collected, transported and distributed by RAM volunteers.
